This months shop interview is one of our local shops that stocks all your needs Martin at Airotherapy shop at 25 east street Whitburn 0191529440022
Chris airo...What do you sell Martin?
Martin...I have all sorts in the shop from the basics like kite lines to kite buggy's surf boards wetsuits juggling and circus stuff local and it all comes with great service and advice
Chris airo ...How did you start out ?
Martin...Way back in 1978 we where messing around with great big doors catching the wind and using a skateboard to speed along the sea front, not long after that i got in to wind sailing on the beach just like a land yaught even started to go to France and compete in the race circuits with John a good mate of mine and in around 1998 saw some guys buggying and got hooked .
Chris airo...Whats been selling well at the shop?
Martin...There has been lots of people starting of this year and the HQ beamer has been the weapon of choice Ive had a few buggy sales and the sufboards and bodyboards are doing well and im allways getting calls for boomerangs, people are asking me about the HQ neo2 as it just come out and people are exited.
Chris airo... What else has been happening at the shop?
Martin...Well its been none stop sales on kites and circus workshops in the community have taken off ,we have been doing a lot of days introducing kites to socially challenged groups and it has gone down very well it has been a reward to get out in the community and i have enjoyed it
Chris airo...So you have been flying for some time what old school kite did you like the best apart from doors?
Martin Oh way back loved the HI Sky tigers great buggy engine .The predator mk2 was a beast of a kite so fast I remember racing John at Bamburgh beach we hit speeds of 55mph scary in a buggy on a 2m kite but great fun all the same .
Chris airo...Whats the worst thing kite wise that you have seen ?
Martin ...There was one guy i saw wrap there kite round a lamppost and caused lots of problems it was cut down by the fire service in the end that wasn't very good .And there was this time when i was learning to jump miss judged it ,next thing i know a gust hit and I'm in the sea getting pulled out to the Farne islands loads of people laughing when i got back in to shore but everything was OK but i have forgotten how many times i have been pulled out my buggy but that's half the fun
Chris airo...Any advice for someone starting out?
Martin...The most common mistake is people using the wrong kite size and underestimating the wind then getting dragged around and not letting go of the handles, that's what you kite killers are for guys. Its a good idea to say hi in the forums meet up with fliers that can show you how to go on and wear pads helmet ..
Chris airo...Anything else you want to tell us about ?
Martin ...I want to get a bit of a retro buggy session going for some laid back speed runs think the next time your club meet is on will have to get the old buggy vibe going
