Rhombus firebee 3m
My first ever foil. The 3m firebee red White and orange. No frills here
but plenty of power for the time. Still got it in the shed but with
flexible handles as the origionals were far from comfy. More of a traction kite than
a lift engine , but very controllable, you could even fly
it backward.
First kite I learned to board on. Many a good speed run on the knavesmire but no
lift really so jumps came later. Having snapped my ankle in a couple
of places and a total of 9 months in pot and 3 opperations later
(thanks to my 6.6 blade) I was dying to get back in the saddle.
Nothing more for it but to get several carrier bags and bubble wrap,
strap up the pot and try a bit of kiting on herrington. So leg padded
to the max, half a roll of parcel tape later off we set. Trying to
sit on a land board is not a great idea, nor is laying on it head
first, we had no buggy at that point but this experienced opened that
chapter. The only thing I could do was. Scud on my ass in+ 25 mph
trying not to catch the ankle in a pot hole.
Such is the power of the firebee I had a great time going face first
through the mud and dog crap.
Getting a bit close to the power lines I let go off the handles only
to find the cheap kite killers tore off and the kite buggered off
towards the main road. Turning round and finding eddie no where near I
legged it full sprint. It was like a clip from forest gump but a major
car crash was looking imminent. Thankfully the fence caught the
handles and saved the day. Alas I prevented the bone from healing and
had a bone graft taken from my pelvis to fix the leg bone. So my
learning was invest in good kite killers and better bubble wrap it's
the only way
still got mine made it into a depower kite had it out in 50mph once and it was great fun
the good old days
